In the UK, BoE policymakers yesterday (Thursday 4 August 2022) voted 8-1 to increase interest rates up by 0.5% to 1.75%.

The main focus for global financial markets this week was the Fed’s monetary policy meeting – and unsurprisingly given recent comments from policymakers, the central bank increased US interest rates by 0.75%.

It was a mixed bag for markets this week, as end of the week losses erased early week gains. Despite a volatile week for many key markets, the S&P 500 ended the week by closing 1% up on the day.
